1980: The CD starts taking form.
1981: MTV airs "Video Killed the Radio Star" which becomes the first music video broadcasted on their network.
1982: Billy Joel's 52nd Street is the first CD released. It was first released in Japan.
1983: CDs are distributed in North America and Europe. Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" is the first Black music video to air on MTV.
1987: GE takes over RCA and breaks the company up into multiple brands. Sony buys CBS for $2 billion.
1988: The CD has huge effects on the music industry. It surpassed the sales of LPs in this year.
1989: Warner Bros merges with Time Inc to create Warner Music.
