TempoTrader's History of American Music
American Music History
1877: Thomas Edison didn't just give us the lightbulb. The phonograph was popping.
1887: The Columbia (that sounds familiar) Phonograph Company is founded. Thanks to Berliner's gramophone, we go from the phonograph's cylindrical records to flat discs.
1892: Grover Cleveland gets elected as president. Did you know his real name wasn't Grover? For real. He's an interesting dude.
Civil War Music
The civil war inspired a lot of soldiering, emancipation, and patriot songs. Mary Had A Little Lamb (1830) and I've Been Working On The Railroad (1894) are examples of popular songs from this era.
