1962: Phillips releases the "Compact Cassette". A fellow by the name of Earl Muntz adapts a 4 track tape cartridge with the Autostereo player to allow for listening of cassettes in cars.
1963: JFK is shot and killed in Dallas, TX.
1964: RCA one-ups Earl by developing an 8 track cassette player.
1965: 32,000 people march from Selma to Montgomery. Malcolm X is assassinated. "My Girl" by The Temptations is #1.
1966: Ford Motor Company works with RCA by offering the 8 track cassette player in 3 of their models. RCA really begins to take over as the 8 track cassette player dominates music consumption for years.
1968: Martin Luther King is assassinated.
1969: Woodstock welcomes 500,000 people.
The Beatles' Takeover
The 60s is dominated by The Beatles. In April of 1964, The Beatles accounted for 5 of Billboard's Top 5 songs.
